Escaping the Mob

Hetling is a mother of four and the caretaker of her bedridden mother. One night, a mob came through their village, beating and sometimes killing families, and looting and burning the houses. Worried about the safety of her family, she asked several of her children to run to the army camp for safety, while she and her daughter stayed back with the elderly mother.

The shop owners in front of their home hid them and told the mob the family had already left for the army camp. They were so scared they hid in the locked house for two days. Then they escaped to the army camp, which was very congested.

Hetling says, “When I think of all the things I have lost, and all that I and my family had to go through, it is still traumatizing for me. We don’t have anything right now. But with the help of EHA, we are getting free medical care and medicine, food rations, and necessities. We are very grateful for their support and help.”

It is only through the tireless work of EHA’s disaster team, along with nearby EHA community staff, that families like Hetling’s have their essential needs met after a tragic situation like this.
