Dentistry
EHA’s dental services began at Duncan Hospital in 1993, and the newest unit launched in 2025 is at Chinchpada Christian Hospital. Our goal is to establish dental services at every location. Currently, 13 of our 18 hospitals offer oral healthcare and are broadening both the services offered and the equipment used at each unit.
Many of the dental departments also travel into the community, offering treatment at camps for those who cannot visit a hospital. Madhipura Christian Hospital has further expanded access by deploying a specially outfitted van that functions as a mobile dental clinic.
Our community outreach focuses on educating schoolchildren about good oral hygiene and the hazards of chewing tobacco and crushed betel nuts. This is important in raising oral cancer awareness.
Duncan Hospital partners with the organization Love Without Reason to host a biannual cleft lip and palate surgical camp. At the November 2025 camp, 150 patients were screened and 70 received life-changing surgery. Duncan’s dentists also offer hands-on training to students from the Christian Dental College in Ludhiana and those studying general dentistry from the Christian Medical College in Vellore. Both are leading Indian training institutions.
At Kachhwa Christian Hospital, Dr. Honeysh George, a head and neck oncology specialist and reconstructive surgeon, has begun a new initiative called the Regional Initiative for Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Yield and Integrated Care (RIHAYI). Rihayi is a Hindi word that translates as “deliverance.” Dr. George’s desire is to raise oral cancer awareness, provide low-cost surgical interventions, and offer comprehensive rehabilitation. In the last year, their unit completed 2,500 outpatient visits and almost 80 surgeries.
Front Tooth Is Saved
A 14-year-old girl came to Madhipura Christian Hospital’s dental department with a loose front tooth, the result of a fall the year before. Upon seeing the X-ray showing the bone loss and reabsorbing root, her mother cried.
So the dentist took a step of faith and gave intracanal medication to the girl for over six months. Upon taking a follow-up X-ray, everyone was thrilled to see significant bone growth, which caused the tooth to be stable once again. Her mother calls it a miraculous healing and now asks for prayers for her daughter at every dental visit.
