HBMH by the Numbers

The staff at Harriet Benson Memorial Hospital is small but mighty. They currently have just one general medicine doctor and no specialists. Five nurses work in the hospital and two go out in the community to provide home-based palliative care and disability services. Amazingly, the nurses and counselors visit and care for an average of 170 palliative care patients each month.

Despite this tiny staff, the hospital serves over 3,000 outpatients each year, and over 200 inpatients. They have a local consultant OB/GYN who comes in to deliver babies, and a visiting ophthalmologist who operates at their eye camps.
