Security, Dignity, and Hope

Mahadalit community groups in India are the “untouchables.” They have no rights, no dignity, no security. They often live in one-room houses and own no land. They have no money and no hope for the future.
One group living near Madhipura Christian Hospital was taken on by their community staff. The team provided capacity-building training to help them understand land rights, navigate government systems, and advocate for benefits. Empowered by this knowledge, 13 families from the community applied for land allotments. Despite a long, bureaucratic process filled with setbacks, they persisted. After two years, their efforts bore fruit—each family received 1,300 sq. ft. of land from the government.
For these families, land means more than property—it symbolizes security, dignity, and a hopeful future for their children. Their success stands as a powerful example of how community empowerment and persistence can transform lives and claim long-denied rights.
