Palliative Care Alleviates Suffering
An estimated 34 million people in India have incurable and debilitating diseases like cancer, HIV/AIDs, neurological damage, and organ failure, and need palliative care (also known as hospice), but fewer than 1% have access to it. There is an enormous need to treat patients’ pain and symptoms, address psychosocial issues, and provide for family needs. Lack of finances makes accessing care extremely difficult for poor patients. EHA offers palliative care to impoverished communities that otherwise have no access to such care through 10 hospitals in 6 states plus the Shalom Project in Delhi.
